Eastside Amateur Radio Support (EARS)

The Eastside Amateur Radio Support (EARS) team is an energetic, dedicated group of approximately 80 volunteer amateur radio operators in the greater Eastside area. The group provides auxiliary communications support to Bellevue and agencies served by Bellevue's 911 Communications Center during a disaster or emergency.

If you are interested in becoming an EARS volunteer, please fill out an application and send it by mail or e-mail to Vernon Owens (contact information in the right column).

Members have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities that include quarterly communications drills, a variety of tours and training in incident command system protocol, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and radio protocol.

Meetings
The EARS group meets the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m., usually in Bellevue's Emergency Operations Center in City Hall, 450 110th Ave. NE. It is not necessary to have your amateur radio license to attend meetings or even join the group.

Recent News
At the annual EARS awards picnic, on Aug. 12 at the Fire Training Center, Fire Chief Michael Eisner and Emergency Manager Luke Meyers gave several members 10-year service awards. Three ambitious volunteers received the President’s Volunteer Award. After the barbecue, medic personnel gave tours of their vehicle.
