Residents of the West Lake Hills area, city representatives and others Saturday will celebrate the completion of several projects designed to improve roadways and preserve neighborhood character.

Many of the improvements, including upgrades to streets, sidewalks and landscaping, are part of Bellevue’s Neighborhood Investment Strategy, launched by the City Council six years ago. More than 500 neighborhood residents worked for several months to help a citizens committee come up with recommendations on construction projects and community-building efforts.

The West Lake Hills Neighborhood Projects Celebration will be at 9 a.m., at the new Lake Hills Farm Fresh Produce Stand, at Southeast 16th Street and 156th Avenue Southeast. 

A $15,000 Neighborhood Parks Program grant from Starbucks Coffee Co. to King County Master Gardener Foundation helped fund construction of the new produce stand, operated by Cha Family Farms during the summer on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Refreshments will be served at the celebration, and those attending can take a 1.5-mile walking tour to see some of the improvements. Also on hand will be Ped-Bee, the city’s pedestrian safety mascot, and an antique tractor where kids may have their photographs taken.
